Abstract : It is well known that drug delivery systems (DDS) can benefit from the utilisation of polymers. The development of the majority of controlled-release technologies has been significantly aided by the ongoing and rapid advancement of research and development efforts pertaining to polymeric materials. An ever-increasing number of publications and patents in the field of controlled drug-release systems that make use of synthetic in addition to naturally occurring polymeric materials are evidence of the significant rise in interest that has taken place in this technology over the course of the previous quarter century.
